What are the different types of membership offered?
Looking to volunteer your time? We offer several categories of membership. Look below to find the best fit for you!!
- Active Member – The main purpose of this membership category is to serve as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and have direct, hands-on patient care. To qualify, you must be 18 years of age or older and reside within the confines of Stanhope or Netcong, or within a 10-minute response distance. You must attend and pass the next available State of New Jersey Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course. You must hold a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for BLS Providers (AHA) card or equivalent, as well as a current and valid NJ Driver’s License. All certifications/training are paid for by the organization.
- Associate Member – The main purpose of this membership category consists of driving the ambulances. To qualify, you must be 18 years of age or older and reside within the confines of Stanhope or Netcong, or within a 10-minute response distance. You must possess and maintain a current and valid NJ Driver’s License as well as a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for BLS Providers (AHA) card or equivalent. You will attend a Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO) certification course and pass in-house driver training. You will be exempt from the EMT certification requirement. All certifications/training are paid for by the organization.
- Auxiliary Member – To qualify, you must be 18 years of age or older and hold a current NJ Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for BLS Providers (AHA) or equivalent. You must also possess a current and valid NJ Driver’s License. Auxiliary members must reside beyond a 10-minute response distance.
- Junior Member – The purpose of this membership is to gain experience and earn an EMT certification. To qualify, you must be either 16 or 17 years of age. You must attend and pass the next available State of New Jersey Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course. You must hold a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for BLS Providers (AHA) card or equivalent. You will be under the direct supervision of an Active Member at all times. Upon turning 18 years of age, you must become an Active or Associate Member. All certifications/training are paid for by the organization.
- Cadet – The purpose of this membership is to gain experience, attend trainings and find out if pre-hospital care is something that interests you! To qualify, you must be 14 or 15 years of age and reside within the confines of Stanhope or Netcong, or within a 10-minute response distance. You must attend and pass a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for BLS Providers (AHA) or equivalent certification course. Upon turning 16 years of age, you must become a Junior Member. A one (1) year extension will be provided to the Cadet upon request before becoming a Junior Member and attending EMT class. All certifications/training are paid for by the organization.
- Support Member – The purpose of this membership is to allow those willing to volunteer, but not in a 9-1-1 response capacity. There is no residency requirement for Support Members. The primary purpose is to assist in fundraisers and other events. You must attend and pass a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for BLS Providers (AHA) or equivalent certification course. Support Members are prohibited from riding on the ambulance unless participating in a pre-approved ride-along shift. All certifications/training are paid for by the organization.
Do I need prior experience?
Prior experience is not required to join! We provide all training for you and there is no out-of-pocket cost!!! We will make sure that you are properly trained and equipped for the tasks at hand. A majority of our members had no prior experience before they became a member of the Stanhope-Netcong American Legion Ambulance Corps.! All levels of experience are welcome!

Why should I volunteer with the Stanhope-Netcong American Legion Ambulance Corps?
The Stanhope-Netcong American Legion Ambulance Corps. offers a variety of benefits specific to our organization making it a great fit for you! SNALAC is the only EMS agency in Sussex County that provides Vehicle Extrication and Ice Rescue services. On top of that, we operate under Atlantic Health System Medical Direction which allows us to provide medication administration! We also provide free uniforms, free training and flexible hours! SNALAC also provides members with the opportunity to apply to the Sussex County Rescue Task Force!
I am interested in providing rescue services. What membership category allows me to do that?
Look no further! As long as you are of 18 years of age or older, all of our membership categories allow you to provide vehicle extrication and ice rescue services under the Stanhope-Netcong American Legion Ambulance Corps.! (Support Membership not included) All you have to do is apply today!
I have no interest in the medical field, but would like to help. How can I volunteer?
This is exactly what our Support Membership category is meant for! Your assistance is still needed for fundraisers and numerous other events! You do not have to ride on the ambulance or have interest in the medical field to still volunteer your time to the community in a commendable way!
